突然想到一陣子的好笑新聞, 就是 Netscape 8.0 出了. 其實我在測 NS8 的時候有發現和 Mozilla Firefox/Thunderbird 不一樣的功能, 叫作 Security Center, 這個不只用在 Gecko family 的 browser 上, 也可以用在 IE 上. 然後不小心就看了一下 source codes. 覺得還蠻有發展潛力的.

沒想到 8.0 Release 一出, Ben Goodger, Firefox 的一個很重要的 Developer, 寫了篇 Netscape 8 Is Unsafe. 說 NS 8.0 沒修掉 Firefox 1.0.3 那個 Cross Site Scripting flaw 的 Security hole.

當然, 沒多久就出了 NS 8.0.1, 這時候 Microsoft 發了新聞稿, 說要 IE 的 Users 移除掉 NS 8 (Microsoft advises IE users to uninstall Netscape 8), 原因是因為在安裝 NS 8.0 之後, 就無法完全正常使用 IE 瀏覽器觀看網頁, 講得術語一點, 就是不能 render XML files, RSS feeds, 和其它 XML related file extensions. 雖然 The IE team blog 有暫時的 solution, 原因是 Netscape writes a registry key into IE’s registry settings that point IE to Netscape’s version of the IE DLL, which has a bug., 但是 NS 8.0 出師不利, 命運多舛啊.
