Firefox 1.5.0.5 has a bug (Bug 346167: Windows MediaPlayer plugin stopped working on specific website with FF 1.5.0.5 (mms)) that causes firefox 1.5.0.5 to be unable to play some streaming media, including Windows Media and Real Media, but they worked fine in Firefox 1.5.0.4. It is suggested to release 1.5.0.6 to fix this bug.

By the way, there is a patch for this bug and has been checked in on MOZILLA_1_8_0_BRANCH at 2006-07-28 12:20. I’ll *not* rebuild 1.5.0.5 with this patch because 1.5.0.6 release candidates have been born (from mozillazine).

6/11/2006 寫的這篇 Ethereal changes name to Wireshark 最近有新進展了.

根據昨天的 Gentoo Weekly Newsletter (24/07/2006), Gentoo 決定把 portage 裡的 Ethereal 也改成 Wireshark 了. 理由是 Ethereal 未來應該不會再開發了 (Bug #140856). 記的要改下面的設定把 ethereal 的設定改成 Wireshark 的設定:

Microsoft Acquires Winternals and Sysinternals, from Slashdot.

Sysinternals 提供了超多有用的免費工具下載, 像是可以知道某個 File 或是 Folder 被誰 Lock, 哪個 DLL 被哪個 process load 進記憶體的 Process Explorer, 可以知道目前哪個 port 被哪個 process 用的 TCPView, 監看某個 process 動了哪些 File 的 Filemon, 監看某個 process 動了哪些登錄檔的 Regmon 等等.

Winternals 的共同創辦人之一 Mark Russinovich, 曾經揭發 Sony BMG 光碟中使用 Rootkit, 他也被 Microsoft 認為是全球前幾名最熟悉 Windows 的人. 如果 Microsoft 一直挖走這類的人, 那不就沒有人可以發現 Windows 的小秘密了嗎? 還是陰謀論一點, 其實 Mark 早就發現了某個不可告知人的秘密, 所以 Microsoft 不得不拉他過來? :p

值得一提的是, 可以看看 Mark’s Sysinternals Blog, 就會發現強者和我們平凡人的差別了 :p

在 Windows 上, 就 Diff 和 Merge 的 Tool 來說, Araxis Merge 算是一絕, 那在 Linux 上就沒有這麼好用的 Tool 了. 不過今天才發現在 sourceforce.net 上有個 Meld 的 project, 可能也是 Gnome2 上 diff and merge 的殺手級 tool.

Picturing the New Spam, from digg.

The volume of the spam contains images has more than doubled since April, according to analysis by anti-spam vendor IronPort Systems. Image-based spam accounts for 21% of all spam, compared with just 1% in late 2005, IronPort says.

不過這讓我想到之前看到的消息: PWNtcha 來解讀 Blog 或是註冊網頁上常見的 CAPTCHA, 已經有相當高的辨識率. 原因就是簡單的 CAPTCHA 都是固定字型、固定位置、沒有顏色變化這類固定的規則, 所以就比較容易被識破.

而 WordPress 的 Plugin AuthImage, MovableType 的 Plugin SCode, PWNtcha 都有 100% 的偵測率. 雖說 Image Spam (aka Content Spam) 可能情況複雜點, 不過應該還是有一定規則才是.

PS: 所謂的 CAPTCHA 用例子來說最快了! 就是下面的圖片:

如果可以回答的出來是 “smwm”, 那就是通過了這個測試.

CAPTCHA 是 Carnegie Mellon University 註冊的商標, 是在資訊領域中, 用來測試使用者是真正的人, 還是自動化程式的 challenge-response 方法之一. 常見的也就是上面的例子.
