Firefox Extension Promises Private P2P, from BetaNews.
AllPeers released a beta Thursday of what it called the most ambitious Firefox extension to date, a peer-to-peer application that would allow friends and family to share files and content between one another in a private setting.
The application has been released on Firefox’s extensions Web site, and is compatible with Windows, Mac OS and Linux. The AllPeers backend uses BitTorrent in combination with what is calls a “darknet,” where the computer user will remain anonymous while transferring files.
You can get this Firefox extension on Firefox Add-Ons site or take a online tour on AllPeers official website. In addition, here is a tutorial on AllPeers.
It’s sad, however, that traffic MUST go through the AllPeers servers in the UK from user Comments on Add-Ons site.

Hey Pigfoot. I tried to contact you via email the other day regarding AllPeers however, the email bounced back. The email went as follows:
Hi pigfoot,
Just a quick note about an extension I’d like to use which is causing conflict with your build. The extension is called ‘AllPeers’. You’ve probably heard about it, it’s a P2P extension.
I posted about the issue here: http://www.allpeers.com/community/read.php?3,735
Basically, if I install the extension and close/reopen firefox, it’ll crash as soon as I try to load it. However, I tried the standard Firefox 1.5.0.6 and it works fine. I’m just wondering if you could try it yourself to see if you have the same issue.
I’m using the Win32 1.5.0.6 pigfoot build. All other information can be found at the URL above.
Thanks for the speedy builds :)
Greatly appreciated,
Alex Richards.
Hi, Alex:
In both cases of 1.5.0.6 and 2.0beta P3 builds, AllPeers 0.5 works fine for me.
Would you please tell me what build you use? P0, P1, P2 or P3? Then I can try to narrow down the problem.
Thanks in advanced.
Hi pigfoot. The first thing I tend to do when I have issues on startup is to disable/uninstall any extensions I don’t really need. I went and removed 5 of the extensions I don’t use and voila, it’s working.
I use the P3 build (just so you know).
The extensions I uninstalled/disabled are as follows:
dom inspector
stylish
FEBE
tab catalog
bookmarks synchronizer
I do appologize that I didn’t do them one by one to know which one it was for sure but I hope this helps in the future with any more issues people may have.
Dear Alex:
Just enjoy AllPeers! ^^
It’s not true that all traffic goes through our servers. If we can’t establish a direct connection between two machines, we use a relay machine, which might be another user’s computer or our dedicated relay. In all cases, all traffic is encrypted end-to-end so the relay can’t interpret it.
Hi Matthew:
Sorry, it’s my fault.
Thanks for your explanation for relay machine cases ;-)
